Plot Synopsis
Mike Sardina, a Don Ho impersonator at an amusement park, quit when he refused to go on stage as anyone other than himself. This happened just as Claire was about to perform as Patsy Cline. Their subsequent conversation led to Claire suggesting he become a Neil Diamond impersonator. Inspired after watching her sing, Mike went home and began practicing with a Neil Diamond vinyl. The two soon started a relationship.

Their first performance as "Lightning and Thunder," a Neil Diamond impersonation duo, was a failure. Despite this, Mike and Claire got married and went on to have a successful string of shows. Tragedy struck when Claire was hit by a car, resulting in the amputation of her left leg. Struggling with the aftermath, she became argumentative and suspected Mike was having an affair. One evening, Angelina questioned Mike about his attendance at AA meetings.

Mike eventually confessed that singing felt meaningless without Claire by his side. Angelina pressed him to attend AA, and he agreed. After a troubling dream prompted Claire to leave the house, the family decided she needed psychiatric help and admitted her to the hospital.

While Mike sought new employment, Rachel revealed she was four months pregnant, a fact no one had noticed. Mike paused, then asked what support she needed, and Rachel admitted she needed her mother. Claire, now walking again, was able to return home in time for Christmas, and she reconciled with Mike.

Claire immediately pushed for "Lightning and Thunder" to start performing again, successfully recapturing their former popularity. She also supported Rachel through the remainder of her pregnancy, and the happy couple welcomed their child. Additionally, Claire and Mike made walking a regular activity to help strengthen her muscles with the prosthetic.

Their success culminated in an invitation to headline at the Ritz in Milwaukee—on the same night Neil Diamond was scheduled to play his sold-out show—offering fans an alternative way to enjoy his music. Mike and Claire accepted the gig, were thrilled to learn Diamond wanted to meet them, and that their own show was also sold out.

While preparing for the concert, Mike suffered another heart attack. As he collapsed, he hit his head on the sink before falling to the floor. Before the show, Mike and Claire wished each other luck, with Mike telling Claire she was his everything and that his success was only possible because of her. The concert was a huge triumph, but Mike died later that night. Claire sang at his funeral.
