Plot Synopsis

In 2021, a woman named Claire is murdered by the original Strangers: Shelly Barnes (Pin-Up Girl), Gregory Rotter (Scarecrow), and Dollface, shortly after she checks into the Venus Hotel and encounters Shelly. The trio kidnaps and kills her in their underground hideout.

Following Shelly's death, Maya seeks sanctuary in a local church but is ambushed by Gregory, who is there to mourn Shelly. Sheriff Rotter apprehends Maya, but she steals his police car, suspecting his involvement with the Strangers. After crashing the car, she is kidnapped by Gregory and Dollface.

Flashbacks reveal that Sheriff Rotter is Gregory's father. After Gregory murdered his classmate, Tamara, Sheriff Rotter used his influence to prevent Gregory's incarceration. He then agreed to cover up Gregory and Shelly's subsequent murders, provided they did not target Venus townsfolk.

Gregory and Dollface dispose of Shelly's body in a sawmill wood chipper. They take Maya to their hideout, where Gregory brands her with the smiley face tattoo and forces her to wear Shelly's Pin-Up Girl mask, culminating in him kissing her. Further flashbacks show Gregory and Shelly meeting Dollface as teenagers. Dollface joined them after they followed her and her boyfriend to a motel, only to find she had already killed him.

Gregory then ties up Maya and takes her and Dollface to scout a new victim. At a gas station, they spot a couple and follow them back to the Venus Motel. Gregory forces Maya to impersonate Pin-Up Girl and repeat the "Is Tamara home?" query. When the couple refuses to open the door, Gregory breaks in and ties them up. Maya refuses to choose one to kill, leading Gregory to murder the man. While he is distracted, Maya ambushes Dollface, stabbing her with a machete and killing her by smashing her skull. Gregory then forces Maya's hand to kill the woman with Dollface's machete.

Maya's sister, Debbie, and her husband, Howard, arrive in Venus from Portland after Maya fails to arrive. A tip from Annie, a waitress at Carol's Diner, makes them suspicious of Sheriff Rotter. They follow him with their bodyguard, Marcus. Sheriff Rotter later murders his deputy, Tommy Walters, who discovered the Sheriff's aid to the Strangers. Gregory receives a warning from Sheriff Rotter that Debbie and Howard are tailing him and are being led toward the sawmill.

Debbie and Howard take refuge in an abandoned trailer, while Sheriff Rotter kills Marcus at the sawmill. Gregory arrives at the trailer site, taunts the couple, and flips the trailer with his truck. He breaks in and kills Howard with his axe, then forces Debbieoutside and kills her as Maya watches, tied up in the truck. Gregory then takes Dollface's body, loads it into Sheriff Rotter's car, unties Maya, and leaves her with the truck and a knife.

Maya loads Debbie's body into the truck and drives out of Venus but soon turns back, realizing Gregory will continue his murders. She drives to his underground hideout with a shotgun taken from the truck. Maya finds and shoots Sheriff Rotter dead. She then enters Gregory's shrine, where he unmasks himself, and the two bond over their shared trauma of loss. Maya professes love for Gregory, a calculated ploy to make him drop his guard. As they embrace, Maya stabs him with the knife he left her. She then uses his axe to finish him off. Maya takes Gregory's mask and flees Venus, ending the Strangers' violence.
