Honey O’Donahue, a private investigator in the town of Bakersfield, California, is summoned to the scene of a fatal car crash by a detective named Marty Metakawich, who cannot seem to grapple with her sexuality. The dead driver of the vehicle, Mia Novotny, was someone whom Honey was supposed to meet with earlier that day.

Honey later meets Mr. Siegfried, who suspects his boyfriend of cheating. After meeting with Siegfried, Honey goes to visit her family, including her sister, Heidi and her many children. Among them is Corrine, a very rebellious teenager. Officer MG Falaconce contacts Honey with Mia Novotny’s parents. She learns from them that Mia recently became a member of the Four-Way Temple, led by the enigmatic Reverend Drew Devin.

Drew sells drugs to strange traffickers, unbeknownst to his congregation. Later, while having sex with one of his followers, he is interrupted by his henchman named Shuggie because one of their drivers overdosed on their product. This is of course Mia Novotny. Chère, the French liaison to the mysterious traffickers, removed the Four-Way Temple ring from Mia’s body before the cops arrived. Chère says that the death of Mia will bring unwanted attention to their operation, but Drew claims to have not been involved.

Another one of Drew’s dealers, Hector, begins to panic when a customer propositions him for sex after refusing to pay. Hector kills the man in a hit and run. Later, Drew sends Shuggie to kill Hector's grandmother, intending to eliminate any lingering threats. However, Hector turns the tables, killing Shuggie. Driven by revenge, Hector ambushes Drew in bed with other congregants, but Drew ultimately kills Hector.

Honey comes to learn that the man Hector ran over was the boyfriend of Mr. Siegfried. After a charged encounter at the local bar, Honey and MG Falcone have sex. Later, Corrine asks her aunt Honey for help after she is beaten by her boyfriend and being stalked by an old man. Honey then goes to question Drew Devin, who actually defends his position to prey upon young women. Honey and MG link up yet again, while bonding over their shared childhood trauma, as they were both abused as children. MG shares that her abusive father was killed in combat overseas.

Eventually Corinne ends up missing. Honey uses violence to question her boyfriend but is approached by the strange old man who was previously stalking Corrine. That man is actually Corrine’s grandfather, as well as Honey and Heidi’s estranged father. He is simply attempting to reconnect. Honey begins to fear that Corrine will suffer the same fate as Mia as she learns that Mia was stabbed to death before being placed in the totaled car and that the bodies of Shuggie and Hector’s grandfather are all being linked to the Four-Way Temple.

Later, Chère ends her partnership with Drew by having sex with him and then shooting him dead. Honey witnesses Chère's departure, but Marty remains unconvinced that a search of the Temple is warranted. When Honey surprises MG at her family home, she discovers that MG kidnapped Corinne, just as an increasingly unstable MG confesses to murdering her own father. MG then stabs Honey, forcing Honey to use MG's own service weapon to kill her before collapsing.

Later, Honey wakes up in an ambulance, having been rescued with Corinne, who was almost MG's next victim. It is then revealed that MG was responsible for the unsolved murders of two sex workers and Mia, whose death was staged as a traffic accident. Later, Honey and Chère flirt after seeing each other at a stoplight.
